Here’s the transcript of the journal that I keep for my photography trips. I usually write at the end of each day on these trips. They usually wind up being a mix of photography & travel advice to myself for future trips.

Drove into Asheville last night to crash with Corrie and Tim. Got there about 1:30 am EST. Got up this morning and headed for Linville Falls. Pretty disappointing color. Probably a week too late at least.
Measured the view angle at Flat Rock and headed back to Asheville. Stopped off at the Folk Art Center and looked around. The Southern Highlands Craft Guild is no joke! Everything there was high quality. Left Asheville and drove south on the BRP.
There were some places that were great, but didn’t have time to stop yet. Needed to get to Pisgah and see if I could camp. First time fall camping in a hammock and had trouble finding a spot. D-25. Set up the hammock and tarp over the table and headed out for sunset. Pisgah campground is near mile marker 408.
Covered up in a cloud and couldn’t get any shots. Scouted for tomorrow. Looking glass rock should be good after the light hits it. Found a spot for sunrise south of marker 400 just past the long tunnel.
Didn’t see much south of the 276 intersection. Need to drive it in daylight though. There was a place near 2 large rocks between graveyard field & 276 that I think would be good for a sunset.

Rained overnight and never stopped. Drove around in the fog looking for a break for sunrise but never found one. Heated water for coffee and oatmeal – Really glad I had my rain pants!
Slept really well in the hammock with the quilt. Only got to 55 degrees though.
Hit a few spots on the BRP when the sun broke through. Just happened to be when I turned on “Goodbye Washington”. I listen to this song every time I leave the mountains.
Pretty uneventful drive home. Forecast was for rain through Thursday night. Rained almost all the way home.
